Sky Mavis reveals combat-focused Atia’s Legacy MMO due in 2026

Sky Mavis recently opened access to Ronin, allowing external developers to build and launch their apps on the network. This doesn’t seem to have slowed the developer down, though.

Indeed, it’s now announced it’s “going all in to build a game that everyone loves”, according to the company co-founder and CEO Trung Nguyen. 

He calls it the “game to show how web3 gaming should be done,” and admits it’s not going to be easy “but the hardness makes us different.” Sounds very much like the Polaris of Sky Mavis’ business strategy to-date.

So what’s the actual game? Built on the original Axie theme, Axie Infinity: Atia’s Legacy is an MMO set within the existing Lunacia universe. Some elements bring connotations to the land-based resource game Axie Homeland, which launched in 2023.

And while it will use Axie land NFTs, Atia’s Legacy is more combat-focused with early gameplay demonstrating squad-based real-time battles and a progression system allowing squads to grow and level up their abilities. There will also be PVE-based quests and missions, and crafting loops to enhance squads.

Additionally, there will be a town hub where players can meet, strategize and form social connections.

To spark engagement, Sky Mavis has opened pre-registration for the forthcoming playtests starting in the summer, which incentivises users through a generous reward system revolving around its AXS token and NFTs. For instance, by inviting friends, users can earn up to 25,000 AXS.

In the case of successful referrals, users can earn raffle tickets, which offer a chance to win Mystic axies. As per usual, users can also earn additional rewards by sharing and streaming content via their social accounts.
