Upcoming blockchain gaming events

Despite the quiet of December sometimes carrying over into January, in the world of blockchain gaming there are plenty of events in the short-term to get us excited.

Now with Xterio’s controversial XTER token launch out of the way, we set sight at UK developer Soccerverse and the launch of its fully onchain football management MMO. Soccerverse season 1 is officially going live on 9th January, with the initial phase being more of a soft launch where players can explore features such as the game shop while also buying packs, signing up as managers and preparing their strategies. Nine days later, on the 18th January, the first match week begins.

Towards the end of January Laguna Labs, the new dev sprung out of Crypto Unicorns team Laguna Games, is dropping its 7,777 strong genesis Prime Core collection for new project Neo Olympus. No date has yet been confirmed, but the collection will mint on Ethereum, with the game deploying on Base L3 chain B3.

At the end of the month, Line Next is releasing its mini-dapp portal within Line Messenger. Alongside the launch, 30 games will go live within the platform, including Delabs Games’ Boxing Star X, Telegram clicker BANANA, and Web3.0 Plants vs Zombies.

As for Delabs Games, the South Korean developer is currently running a closed playtest for its upcoming Boxing Star X, which as well as launching via Line Messenger, will go live on Telegram as part of a Delabs’ recent strategic pivot. The beta testing is from 7th to 14th January.

Precisely what will come of it no one knows, but the gaming blockchain with the most momentum in 2024 is preparing to go permissionless sometime in early 2025. Sky Mavis co-founder Jeff Zirlin predicts that many games which have been gated from Ronin so far, will now onboard the network and benefit from its distribution advantages. With greater integration and ecosystem growth being two of the desired outcomes, Sky Mavis’ leading star is greater economic freedom for gamers. It hopes opening its accessibility is a step in that direction.

One of the games already based on Ronin, top-down shooter The Machines Arena, is coming to Steam on 14th January. Alongside the news, the team has also announced the game is coming to PS5. It will continue to be available through Epic Game Store and Android.

On 20-21st January the leading global games industry conference Pocket Gamer Connects returns to London. In terms of web3 gaming content, the line-up includes Marc Alloul from Helika, Sofia Senatorova from Tezos, Alun Evans from Laos Network, and more. In addition, BlockchainGamer’s Jon Jordan will reveal our Top 50 blockchain game companies of 2025 live from the stage.
