Yuga Labs’ Otherside breaks world record with 2,197 FPS players

A final count of 2,197 players took part in Otherside’s first round of Project Dragon, which was enough to see Yuga Labs break the Guinness World Record for most concurrent players ever in an online first-person shooter.

Both community members from across Yuga Labs projects – including holders of Apes, Meebs, Kodas, Moonbirds, and Voyagers – as well as family and friends from outside, took part in the record-breaking five matches.

Its success is partly thanks to MSquared, a platform that allows developers to build and connect virtual worlds within the metaverse, essentially creating a network of interconnected spaces where players can move between multiple experiences seamlessly.

The experiment was part of Yuga’s preparations for its forthcoming Otherside launch in June 2025. A metaverse allowing games to live forever, among other features it includes AI integrations, a developer toolkit, and “always-on” persistent islands.

“Today’s Project Dragon event was one for the record books, and Yuga Labs has many more firsts for Otherside planned for later this year.

In related news, following the end of Dookey Dash Unclogged season 1, Yuga Labs’ CEO Greg Solano recently announced the discontinuation of the game in its current form.

A collaboration with Faraway GamesDookey Dash Unclogged was a sequel to Yuga’s browser-based Dookey Dash and launched on mobile in 2024. While Yuga fully focuses its efforts on OthersideDookey Dash Unclogged will be revitalised in some form once the metaverse goes live in June.
