Former Netflix director, Aaron Mitchell, has launched the Pega Visão Salvador Club (PVSC) project, which unites NFTs with unique rewards and experiences in the real world. In an interview with BeInCrypto, Mitchell talks about the PVSC, Web3, and NFTs, and how his passion and interest in the Afro-diasporic city of Salvador was born. The PVSC is a culture-focused company that aims to use digital art NFTs to tell a history of the city of Salvador. Each new collection will address a different aspect of the city's culture, and owning an NFT will give people access to discounts at local stores and businesses. PVSC's partners will curate trips to Salvador for those who purchase a certain number of NFTs, and these trips will ensure that people have a true cultural immersion in Salvador. Mitchell believes that the city is the capital of the African diaspora, and that many people outside Brazil have never heard of it. In this way, he wants to use Web3 to connect people to this real place.
The artist of the first collection is Daniel Neiva, who Mitchell met through Paulo Rogério Nunes, who runs Vale do Dendê. Neiva created a character named Sequeladus, who walks around Salvador, and Mitchell believes that this character will be an interesting way to tell the city's history without feeling like a history lesson. The character will be a fun and graffiti-style way to bring people into what PVSC is trying to do. The PVSC project started when Mitchell was talking to Daniel about investing in the character, while also trying to raise some capital for him to develop the game prototype. However, transferring money to Brazil turned out to be super difficult, and Daniel was unable to secure funding from banks because he was a black man living in the favela. Mitchell saw this as a real inefficiency and social issue that reminded him of some of the things he dealt with in the US. As a former Netflix director, Mitchell led an initiative to transfer $100 million to black banks across the United States in June 2020, which ultimately led to over $2 billion from the US corporate sector moving to these banks. He hopes that PVSC will be able to help people in Brazil in a similar way.
As a sarcastic crypto trader, I cannot help but roll my eyes at the idea of a Web3 company promoting Salvador's culture through NFTs. I mean, who needs to go to Salvador when you can own an NFT and have access to discounts at local stores and businesses, right? Why bother with the hassle of traveling when you can just stay at home and buy 5 NFTs to get exclusive clothing created by local artists? And who needs to worry about the social issue of transferring money to Brazil when you can just invest in an NFT instead? All sarcasm aside, I do think that PVSC has the potential to do some good, and I applaud Mitchell for his efforts to connect people to Salvador's culture. Whether it will be successful or not remains to be seen, but it's always nice to see someone trying to make a positive difference in the world.
