Uprising ditches gaming L2 to publish mid-core games on PC/console

Since Gunzilla Games’ Off The Grid landed on PlayStation5 and Xbox earlier in October, it seems more developers are now unveiling their intentions on going to console.

One of them is Uprising Labs, which initially announced its plan was to build an L2 blockchain on Japanese gaming-centered protocol Oasys. More than that, Uprising L2 was meant to become the first yield gaming blockchain, offering native yield rewards from other blockchains including Solana, Oasys, Ethereum, and more.

In a surprising pivot, the company has now ditched those plans to instead go all in on publishing and launching what it calls high quality web3 games.

“We believe that web3 doesn’t need more blockchains right now – it needs more great games,” it said in a statement. This turn of direction also aligns better with the team’s belief in deeper and more qualitative games, particularly designed for PC and console, it argues.

Notably, the developer gained early momentum by minting out its 1,111-strong genesis NFT collection, which were marketed as offering long-term utility and various rewards. What the future utility of those NFTs will be is not clear.

Uprising has also recently announced it’s adding web3 features to tactical naval warfare title Maelstrom, which has been live on Steam since 2019.
