Price of SAND surges as The Sandbox marks 5 years since first land NFT sale
One of blockchain gaming’s most prominent projects since its 2018 reveal, The Sandbox has numerous reasons to celebrate as we’re approaching the end of 2024.
Although having gone through a quieter phase compared to its early days, the release of its alpha season 4 in October seems to have sparked more noise and anticipation around the Roblox-like web3 game platform. In the first two weeks alpha season 4 garnered 276,000 unique users, of which 30,000 bought $5 alpha passes in order to boost their rewards.
But it was 5 years ago that The Sandbox dropped its first LAND sale, which have since been a regular staple in different forms depending on the platform’s latest brand collaborations. Seeing accumulating sales volume, 80% of all LAND plots on the map have now been sold, also driving up the overall market capitalization of the map to over $1 billion.
In terms of total trading volume, the LAND NFTs have generated 138,461 ETH ($481 million) on secondary NFT marketplace OpenSea.
For users interested in grabbing a plot, the floor price currently sits at 0.13 ETH ($452).
In related news, but for no apparent reason other than crypto’s general positive sentiment, The Sandbox’s SAND token price has increased sharply over the last 30 days. Up 211%, the current price is $0.77.
Although a 79% year-to-date increase, the price has dropped 91% since its all-time-high of $8.40 three years ago. It currently ranks #70 of all tokens.
Continuing to expand with new brand collaborations and experiences, The Sandbox has also taken some significant steps in terms of broader ecosystem expansion throughout 2024.
- Its SAND token integrated support for multiple blockchains, including BNB, Base, and Polygon, building stronger connections and interoperability across networks.
- In May, the developer also introduced The Sandbox DAO, allowing its community of SAND and LAND holders greater influence by delegating decision-making on matters relating to SAND and LAND assets, its reward system, and more.
- Reaching another significant milestone, in March The Sandbox announced it had seen over 1,000 UGC experiences published in the map.
Getting ever closer to its full launch, The Sandbox is working towards a mobile release in addition to its current PC version, although no launch date has yet been confirmed.
