Team Liquid, the global professional esports organization, launched MyBlue, a native fan engagement platform built on the Sui blockchain and smart contact platform.
The launch of MyBlue is the result of a collaboration between Team Liquid and Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. The two parties announced their partnership in February 2024.
Together, Mysten Labs and Team Liquid are reimagining fan loyalty, empowering fans to unlock exclusive, one-of-a-kind digital rewards with low-cost, efficient transactions, customizability, and the unparalleled speed of Sui’s blockchain.
MyBlue builds on the legacy of Liquid+, Team Liquid’s original fan platform released in late 2020. With MyBlue, fans will get their own soulbound avatar of Blue, Team Liquid’s mascot, that they can customize with digital items earned by completing quests.
These collectibles will include memorabilia of important moments in their fan journey, as well as fun items that enable fan customization and self-expression. To earn these items, users complete quests by interacting with Team Liquid, like watching live esports matches or player streams, responding to social media posts, chatting with the community on Discord, submitting memes or words of encouragement to teams, answering quizzes, and more.
Fans can also unlock additional rewards and value, such as signed jerseys, TL store discounts, in-game currency, exclusive merch and player access, and even one-of-a-kind experiences like trips to an esports event.
“We’re excited to launch MyBlue to our fans, as well as the wider esports and gaming communities,” said Steve Arhancet, co-CEO of Team Liquid, in a statement. “Thanks to our partnership with Mysten Labs, we’ve taken the best parts of Liquid+ and upgraded it by integrating Sui to make the ultimate fan platform. Fans show up for us, and MyBlue will enable us to keep showing up for them by offering amazing experiences and unique rewards. I can’t wait for all our fans to get their own Blue.”
With the launch of MyBlue, Team Liquid and Mysten Labs said they are redefining fan engagement by providing fans with meaningful interactions within the Sui ecosystem. The custom Blue and all earned items will be stored on Sui, giving users true ownership of their individual fan journey. Additionally, users create their MyBlue account through Mysten Labs’ product, zkLogin, which enables simplified access to blockchain apps on Sui via signing in with familiar web credentials, like Google and Twitch.
“Seeing Team Liquid push the boundaries of what’s possible in esports and onchain experiences is extremely validating,” said Anthony Palma (an ace Call of Duty player), head of gaming partnerships at Mysten Labs, in a statement. “Through integrating Sui, Team Liquid fans will have a frictionless journey on MyBlue, acquiring collectibles to showcase their fandom without the need for a deep understanding of the underlying blockchain technology the platform is built on. Through our partnership with Team Liquid, Mysten Labs gives MyBlue users a unique experience to customize avatars, complete quests, and earn rewards.”
Team Liquid will host a celebration event on Thursday, November 14 for the launch of MyBlue on twitch.tv/teamliquid, from noon to 4 pm Pacific time. Fans will be able to earn prizes by digitally playing the world’s largest crane game and by entering the “Ultimate TL Fandom Kit” giveaway that includes a TL store shopping spree, and an Alienware peripherals package, and a custom Blue plushie and corresponding unique item for their MyBlue.
Team Liquid, founded in 2000, has won more than $53 million across 7,000 tournaments to date. Sui is a first-of-its-kind Layer 1 blockchain and smart contract platform designed from the bottom up to make digital asset ownership fast, private, secure, and accessible to everyone.
Its object-centric model, based on the Move programming language, enables parallel execution, sub-second finality, and rich on-chain assets. With horizontally scalable processing and storage, Sui supports a wide range of applications with unrivaled speed at low cost.
Mysten Labs is a team of leading distributed systems, programming languages, and cryptography experts whose founders were senior executives and lead architects of pioneering blockchain projects. The mission of Mysten Labs is to create foundational infrastructure for Web3.
Asked about the resistance some Western gamers have shown to blockchain, a spokesperson for Team Liquid said in an email, “It’s true that there is still hesitancy on blockchain games and Web3 in general, especially in Western markets, and it’s a challenge to overcome. Mysten Labs, the team behind Sui, is an ideal partner for us, because they understand how important it is to meet gamers where they’re at. Not everyone fully understands the intricacies of blockchain, but if you can show how accessible, simple, and valuable it can be, then you can overcome that hesitancy. Team Liquid and Sui both believe in leading with experience and value first, not the details of the tech.”
The spokesperson added, “We think that MyBlue is an ideal way to introduce our fans to blockchain in a more casual way that showcases the value it can bring to you as a Team Liquid fan while also not being something to be afraid of. This opens up more doors to also introduce additional Sui features as well as gaming on Sui, since our fans will realize that blockchain is just another technology that can enhance their gaming and fan experience.”
