Zed Run discontinued to make way for Zed Champions

Struggling for some time with its community and downwards asset prices, Australian web3 game studio Virtually Human has announced the discontinuation of horse racing game Zed Run, after six years.

However, its decision to sunset the game on 28th February should be seen as a transition as the developer prepares for the launch of its new project Zed Champions. Following Zed Run’s closing, players will have a month to claim, buy or trade their reward badges, which will then carry over to Zed Champions, where holding badges make users eligible for new horses. But the game’s horse NFTs will not carry over.

To mark the end of the chapter, as well as try to retain its player base, Zed Run is hosting a sunset event. Starting with week-long seasons that give players a chance to multiply their XP, climb the ranks and earn engagement points, the event culminates in a three-day Sunset Stakes event.

Featuring a $100,000 ZED token prize pool, it starts on 26th and ends 28th February.

Of course, not everyone is taking the news well.

After the announcement of its plans, numerous NFT holders and community members have vented their anger and disappointment over the project on X, calling it a “scam” and a “rug”. Despite this, the team remains hopeful, saying “This is just the beginning … We promise, 2025 is gonna be one helluva year for ZED.”
