Shardbound launches via Steam and Epic Games 9th October
Hoping to add a splash of colour and brightness to what it calls a “dark, post-apocalyptic battlefield”, Bazooka Tango has unveiled the open beta launch of Shardbound.
Available from 9th October, the PC-based card game will launch via Steam and Epic Games Store. Already gaining 100,000 pre-registrations, it has become one of the most anticipated web3 games to release in 2024.
For US developer Bazooka Tango, the launch marks a significant milestone. As with most games, Shardbound’s development hasn’t always been plain sailing. Originally launched as a Kickstarter project that never managed to generate enough capital, the title ended up being acquired by Bazooka Tango. Sticking to the original vision, the team has since added web3 elements and rebooted the game in collaboration with Immutable.
In 2023, the team raised $5 million to support the game’s launch.
With the forthcoming open beta phase, a few new features will also be introduced, including added depth of strategy, where every match can change in just one well-timed move. Viewers are able to join in mid-game. Another highlight is the game’s bright and colourful design, making it stand out among the multitude of dark and grim strategy games.
“We didn’t want Shardbound to feel like another dark, post-apocalyptic battlefield. We envisioned a world where art, culture, and beauty still thrive – a place that’s full of sunshine, lush flora, and people who cherish creativity as much as strategy,” commented Bazooka Tango co-founder and CEO Bo Daly.
“We’ve crafted a game that’s not just fun to play – it’s exciting to watch. We’ve dialed up the intensity, designed huge, game-changing moments, and created a world that players will want to return to again and again,” he added.
