What to expect from “open gaming superchain” B3?

After the recent launch of Igloo’s Ethereum L2 Abstract, other developers are now gearing up to roll out or expand their chains. To that end, we’ve taken a closer look at gaming optimized L3 chain B3, and what to expect from what it calls its open gaming superchain.

Aiming to fill a gap in the sector, B3 is built on L2 blockchain Base, with the Celestia network operating underneath. Founded by NPC Labs, a team previously working for Base, the vision is to power a larger cross-chain gaming ecosystem consisting of third-party studios’ own “gamechains” and games.

Backed by $18 million in funding to accomplish this, B3 reaches “across ecosystems, prioritizing the bigger opportunity: an open onchain ecosystem that game studios, developers and brands can easily adopt with a UX that anyone can play.”

This will be supported by the underpinning B3 token, which will launch later in 2025. 

So far, B3 claims to have 6 million players across more than 80 live games within its ecosystem.

The most prominent game using B3 is sci-fi TCG Parallel. Other titles include Mighty Bear Games’ Mighty Action Heroes and Waifu Clash, Nifty Island, and lesser known games such as Toshi’s Fishing Frenzy, Find Minime, War Tactics, and more. 

More generally, Base has gained momentum as the home to an increasing number of game projects, including SuperChamps, Blocklords, Chibi Clash, and YGG’s recently unveiled Onchain Guilds platform.
